HUD Denies Veterans Housing Rights

Ignoring Veterans, Hud has jumped on the Wagon, along with the VA and others, of not protecting the rights of Veterans. I know 1st hand after filing my complaints, and being assured by Stephen Cogswell of the San Francisco Regional Office and Jelani M. Madaraka Lead, Civil Rights Analyst for the Honolulu, HUD Offices, that we care about Veterans and you, but to date there has been no follow up. Mr. Stephen Cogswell stated in December 2013 that after speaking with his upper management that he was sending out the official documents for my signature for HUD to investigate my complaints filed in the summer 2013 against the VA, the YWCA and the U.S. Vets for the denial of my housing rights and the allegations of my unlawful eviction from a Federally Funded program for Homeless Female Veterans to provide housing here in Honolulu.

I have received no follow up by HUD, even after contacting and speaking directly to Mr. Jelani M. Madaraka in person at the Olelo TV Studio, 2 weeks ago and then emailing Jelani my concerns of having no response from Mr. Stephen Cogswell or the Secretrary of HUD Shaun Donovan, I have gotten no follow up from Mr. Jelani Madaraka either. Still no documents for my signature, again no level of action to ensure any due process to me and resolve to the denial of my rights to Housing. It has been almost a year since I filed my complaints to HUD.

HUD Denies Veterans Housing Rights
After several phone calls and emails to HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan my complaints have fallen on deaf ears. Again as many Veterans can a-test too, as a Veteran my complaints do not rise to any level of action by Eric Shinseki, the VA or HUD. I will be posting copies of the original complaint filed to HUD and my emails to HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, that continue to go unresponded to by HUD.

CC: Secretary Shaun Donovan, HUD

To Mr. Jelani Madaraka, Lead Civil Rights Analyst, HUD Honolulu Field Office,

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me at the Olelo TV Studio, yesterday, and for stating that you would be following up with my request for information from the San Francisco HUD Office, Mr. Stephen Cogswell, about my formal complaint.

As I stated to you, I have not spoke to or received any response from Mr. Stephen Cogswell since Dec. 5, 2013. When Mr. Cogswell in a phone conversation stated that he would be sending me paperwork to sign for my complaint and had spoken to his boss (name unknown). I have tried to contact Mr. Cogswell on the phone to no avail on March 28, 2014, his voicemail is always full and Mr. Cogswell has not responded to my email on March 28, 2014.

I did contact Secretary Donovan by email on April 21, 2014 and called his office on April 22, 2014 at (202) 708-0417, I was placed on hold for over 25 minutes and the person that placed me on hold (Eunice ?), did not come back on the line, when I tried to call back I only got Sec. Donovan’s voicemail indicating that it was unable to take voice messages.

Thank you again for your time, and I respectfully request a written follow up for my complaint from HUD.

Thank you,
Tina Quizon
