more than 2 years has past since disabled Veteran Charles P. Canamar was measured for his prosthesis, after losing both of his lower leg extermedies
Update: Since this story was written, Disabled Veteran Charles P. Canamar did not ever receive the the pair of prosthesis form the VA that he was measured for 2 years prior, and in fact at age 64, passed away here in Honolulu.
Hoping that President Obama will give Disabled Veteran Charles P. Canamar a double leg up, Charles shared with us his frustration. And his hopes that the President will empathies and help out with the disable veterans plight. Charles plans to visit the President on the tarmac when the President plane arrives at Hickam Air Force Base with the Family for Christmas. Charles is trying to be patient, but, Charles shared that he has waited for more than 2 years. Charles said “I am not aware of any sequester at the VA?” And even though Charles has spoken to many officials at the Veterans Affairs headquarters at Tripler Army Hospital, including trying to talk to the regional director of the VA here in Honolulu Hawaii, Ms. Tracey Betts on three occasions, but was declined, there has been no progress in getting the artificial legs he needs. Charles struggles without the artificial legs that would give him mobility or at the least the ability to go to the bathroom without a struggle. The frustration for this disabled veteran has mounted since it has been more than 2 years since Charles P. Canamar was measured for his prosthesis, after losing both of his lower extremities on his legs to amputation.
Charles is very humbled and tries not to make a fuss, but really General Shinseki is this the best the Veterans Affairs can do for our Veterans? Watch Retired General Shinseki speech that we filmed on location here in Honolulu, and the promises General Shinseki made to all Veterans, many like Charles are still waiting for the promises of the services they deserve:

Perhaps President Obama can make Charles’s wish come true and the disabled Veteran will get the two things he really wants in his stockings for Christmas, the pair of prosthesis that he was measured for 2 years ago. This is a big injustice to the very Veterans that have served our country, we will keep you posted.
Update:The President’s plane arrives at Hickam Air Force Base, we filmed the president and the arrival of the first Family for our TV Show. But sadly their was no sign of our disabled Veteran Charles on the flight line, we hope Charles is okay and that his health has not deteriorated more preventing him from meeting President Obama.

He says he has been waiting for prosthetic legs for the past two years, but has been ignored by Tripler. This week he is in Kailua trying to get the President’s attention to help him get his new legs. Normally he is in the Salt Lake area. Maybe you can help.

Thank you for your time and compassion you showed my Uncle Charles P. Canamar III. I have received news that he passed away. Unfortunately he never received his prosthetic legs and his voice can no longer be heard. I ask you, in his place and memory, speak for him. I am in the states and unfortunately cannot accept the responsibility.

We received sad news today from the relatives of Charles Canamar III that Charles has past away without ever receiving his 2 prosthesis legs that he was measured for and were ordered by the VA and manufactured by a local Prosthesis Company, the 2 Prosthesis legs sat on a shelf collecting dust Charles never received the legs. It had been more than 4 years since Charles P. Canamar was measured for his prosthesis, after losing both of his lower extremities on his legs. The 2 separate amputation operations of his lower legs were done here in Honolulu by the VA at the Tripler Army Medical Hospital. The family wanted to thank everyone, Mr. Carroll Cox, Hawaii News Now, his friends (the Staff) at Salt Lake McDonald’s, that tried to help shed light on his plight and this injustice by the VA. We hope the DOJ, VAOIG and VA Sec McDonald will investigate these continued injustices and hold accountable the Hawaii VA leaders here for such sub-human insensitive acts upon our very Veterans that have served our country.
